The rant below was posted by me on a message board("Face the Duke" on alphalove.com).
They were arguing that drug users should be treated the same as any criminal. I felt my response should be reposted here:

It is funny how even those who DO take drugs, sorry, "medicine", like to push to abolish other peoples choice of "medicine". At one point in time, cocaine and heroin were both FULLY legal, and even prescribed by doctors. HEROIN was a wonderful cough suppressant. Civilizations all over the world, use opiates and psychoactives as a means of "spiritual enlightenment". Are these people "junkies"? NO!
Even today, many Americans like to use these as well, and MOST are NOT "criminals".
Pot smokers are not "true" criminals. And for them to be treated the same as killers or rapists is fucking embarrassment to human evolution and law.

There will always be people who will abuse drugs, but we must be careful when we define "abuse". – I get HORRIBLE migraines. I have tried numerous medications, but they never seem to help. What does help, is Hydrocodone, also known as Vicodin. I take a couple of those, and I loosen up, and the stabbing edge of the migraine drifts away. And at the same time , I get a nice soothing buzz. Do I use my pills for fun sometimes? Of course I do. I as a human being, have that right to do so.
I believe also at one time, MDMA(ecstacy) was legal, but then we started to enjoy it, and they took it away. I tried it, and I hated it, so therefore, I don’t use it.

I grew my own mushrooms a couple of times(learn how here: www.shroomery.org). And I have had some of the most beautiful experiences of my life whilst under their influence. Am I a "bad person", Should I be locked away like a child molester?

I know plenty of people who are prescribed antidepressants, and anti-anxiety medications.
Prozac, Zoloft, Xanax, Paxil, etc…And I am sure all of YOU do as well. In fact, I bet even some of YOU are on them. I bet you take them, because they take away the pain, or diminish the worries, etc… Well, to some people, a simple plant named Cannabis takes away that same pain. To some people, maybe a hard day at the office, is peacefully sedated by the sap of a beautiful flowering plant, Papaver somniferum(Opium). Look at this link to see this HORRIBLE drug

There are users, and abusers. Making things illegal, creates criminals.
You wanna know what is a lot more dangerous than drugs? SMOG…. Maybe we should try to work on that issue.
Wanna know what is funny? A "stoner" digging through his room for some "bud".
You wanna know what is NOT funny? Some asshole caffeine addict who is so fucking vicious without his morning dose, that I fear him more than a crackhead.

Those of you on here who are ANTI-drugs, please answer if you drink coffee.
If you do, then under your own belief system, YOU should be locked away, and have your "medicine" taken away.
